Why don’t you invest in yourself?
How much do you invest in yourself? Both financially and also on a deeper emotional level? How much focus do you give currently to developing yourself and your own outlook on life?
We spend so much time making sure are children are developing ok. We pay for musical instrument lessons, sports clubs, swimming, extra maths and french if they need it. We make sure they have the latest uniform and kit list that they need for all of their activities. We spend hours travelling back and forth to get them to all of these place. And why do we do this? Because we know it helps them to be confident, well-rounded individuals.
And yet when it comes to you, and your needs, what happens then? How much do you invest in yourself? Do you baulk at the idea of spending hard earned cash on your own wants, needs and desires, and yet fork out endlessly for the kids? Do you have the mindset that you aren't as important as them, that your own development and social activities don't matter? So many of us stand on the sidelines, creating everything for our children and nothing for ourselves. And you know where that leads? It leads to disappointment, unhappiness and resentment on some level.
If you want your children to understand that it's important to be a well-rounded individual and to look after yourself, it is down to you to start modelling that behaviour. They are led by your attitudes and actions NO MATTER WHAT. So help them learn that important lesson about how to life a happy, fulfilling life, by living one yourself.
Find the time and the cash to spend something on developing yourself. It doesn't have to be extravagant, it doesn't have to be an epic adventure. It just has to be something you like, that you'd enjoy and it has to start. Go on, you know you want to, don't you?
