Mindfulness for mums - is it realistic or even achievable?

In the last few years, we've seen more and more info about how Mindfulness is important, about how we should all be looking after our mental health and preventing overwhelm before it rears its ugly head.

But what if you are a hugely busy, pushed for time mum? How is it at all achievable to incorporate a mindful pracice into your everyday life? Is it just one more thing to have to juggle, and potentially fail at, as the other plates you are spinning are just too many to be allowed to drop?

My Mindfulness Experience

I was curious about Mindfulness for a long time before I tried it, before I committed to investing in myself (not an easy thing to do when there are mouths to feed and expensive shoes to be bought (Clarks, trainers, wellies, football boots...the list goes on...). I just couldn't see how I could make it a part of daily life as my day was so FULL already.

And that's been the biggest thing for me to experience. That by taking time everyday to SLOW DOWN (something that doesn't come naturally for me), I actually created more room, more space. By taking the edge of the panic to rush through my to-do lists, I found a way to let go of the things that don't really matter and to connect with myself and with my children.

I found ways to make sure I listened when my children spoke, to notice that I needed to calm down when they had wound me up on the school run. To put in place coping strategies before I exploded!

In fact, what I learned, completely changed me, and for the better. And I'd encourage any mum who is tired of feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious or just not really on top of things, to give it a go.
